The Black Eye Table, designed in 1990, is a beechwood coffee table with Laverrière's signature bare-plywood edges. The chamfered edges frame the black formica surface and bring out its eye-shape. It was inspired by the deep dark eyes of a close friend of Laverrière, giving the table a poetic and personal narrative. As with her other designs, Laverrière envisioned the table with the idea of a total interior in mind: the coffee table is an eyecatcher on its own, but also a piece that integrates her other designs, like the concave forms of Laverrière's seating platform (Seating Platform, 2009).
