Janette Laverrière's rotating cherry-wood Bibliothèque Tournante is an adjustable bookshelf. Instead of standing silently against the wall, it quickly and easily reorients to suit the needs or whims of its users, a functional conversation piece more than mere decoration. Bibliothèque Tournante was originally commissioned by the artist Pierrette Bloch, a friend of Laverrière's, in 1950. The bookshelf is warm and welcoming yet practical, rotating its four sizable wooden cases a full 360 degrees. A firm aluminum cast base prevents the piece from toppling, and steel handles provide for easy handling of the movable cases. The Bibliothèque Tournante is reproduced from a 2011 run.
