Evocations is a series of sculptural mirror objects that Laverrière begun in 1989, when she stopped accepting commissions and instead adopted a new credo, "It's useful to have useless things," that would guide her for the rest of her life. Seemingly useless as mirrors because of their convex and concave forms, elaborated frames, and their distortion of reality, the objects appear more like art objects than functional mirrors. These unique pieces are aesthetically and conceptually layered, based on political allegories, surrealistic shapes, poetical narratives, and Laverrière's personal interests.
